Tokutei Ginou Taxi exam practice

How scoring and passing work in the Tokutei Ginou Taxi exam

The marking rule is short but easy to misunderstand: you need at least 60% in the theory part and at least 60% in the practical part, not 60% of all 50 questions. This page explains how it works, with a table of examples so you can check your own scores on practice tests.

The marking rule

According to the implementation guidelines, the standard for passing is a correct-answer rate of 60% or more in each of the theory part (学科試験) and the practical part (実技試験). With 30 theory questions and 20 practical questions, that means:

The two parts are not added together. You must pass both at the same time. Someone who does very well in theory but neglects the practical part can still fail, and the other way round. The full structure of the exam is on what the Tokutei Taxi exam is.

Pass and fail examples

Theory (30)Practical (20)ResultWhy
1812PassBoth parts exactly at 60%
2510FailPractical below 12/20 despite a very high theory score
1720FailTheory below 18/30 despite a perfect practical score
2214PassBoth parts above 60%
3011FailOne question short in the practical part

The second and third rows show the key principle: you cannot make up points between the parts. That is why, when you practise, you should track two separate numbers rather than looking only at the total.

What this means for your tactics

Because you must pass both parts, the sensible tactic is to protect the 60% mark in both instead of pouring everything into one. If you are stuck on a practical question, eliminate the dangerous options and choose; do not leave many blanks. Theory questions are usually quicker, so do them first to bank safe points and then give time to the practical part. How to split the 80 minutes is on exam day, and the common traps are on study tips.

Reading the results of practice tests

When you take a practice test in the app, record the theory score (out of 30) and the practical score (out of 20) separately. The result history keeps your earlier attempts for each test so you can see progress. Remember that the app's internal score targets are practice goals, not the official mark; the official mark is 60% in each part. Both parts matter equally, so if one is clearly lower, give that part more time: for theory see the theory section, for practical see the practical section.

After you get your result

Whether you pass depends on your real exam result; no tool or tip can guarantee it. Practise steadily and always check the official information on the ClassNK portal.
